Matt has been practicing law in San Francisco since 1986 and has represented over a thousand clients. His client list includes many of the best businesses and business people in the greater Bay Area. He has represented and avised small businesses, seriously injured persons, restaurant owners, property owners/brokers, general and subcontractors, high net worth individuals/trusts, and property managers involving a wide range of issues, and claims which were resolved through hard work and appropriate action for the particular fact/legal situation. No two (2) cases or clients are the same. In 2006, after 20 years of litigation and transactional work, Matt began to focus a portion of his practice as a retained mediator, to help other attorneys (and their clients) settle their disputes. Matt Wertheim has extensive jury and court trial experience, and is well versed in trial strategy, in the event he is unable to resolve a matter to his client's satisfaction pre-litigation, and/or pre-trial.
Matt's philosophy is to give his clients personal attention and to explain the process along the way so that the client's experience is a positive one and the particular legal issues do not negatively impact the client's life. Matt's experience over the past decades with difficult insurance companies, claims adjustors, and opposing counsel in both simple and complex situations lets his clients rest assured that they will receive a well conceived legal strategy and the most cost-effective way of achieving the best possible result for that client's personal and unique set of circumstances. Sometimes that strategy leads to litigation, and other times to negotiated resolutions - often a combination of both. Always, the client's financial situation and the costs/benefits of filing motions, hiring experts, consultants, etc. is discussed with the client. Matt's clients are intimately involved in the process (unless of course the client wants, or prefers, a more "hands off" relationship and is only interested in the "end result").
Mr. Wertheim received his BA degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1982. He received his JD law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1985.
